Unique, patented innovation
Norrhydro has been developing NorrDigi® in collaboration with the University of Tampere and Volvo Construction Equipment. The intelligent digital control system optimizes the movements of the hydraulic cylinders with the right force and speed whereas traditional hydraulic actuators rely on throttled flows to exert proper control, which consumes energy, generates heat and requires cooling. In NorrDigi® system the energy is stored in accumulators which directly drive four-chamber hydraulic cylinders. In idle movements, they regenerate energy back to the accumulators.
The variable flow of four-chamber cylinders, together with the hydraulic motors, are on a common pressure and return line to the accumulators. With the four chambers, the cylinders can handle sixteen different movements by using two different pressure lines, namely high- and low-pressure lines. The four-chamber technology is not new, but the electronic control is. The complex algorithms of this control provide fast action with only a fraction of the force compared to a traditional drive.

Starting from productivity increase and better fuel efficiency to improved energy recovery. Additionally, CO2 emissions and power demand are reduced, and downsizing of components or even deletion of some main components brings further benefits, also in form of financial savings on a system level. The intelligent system also enables preventive maintenance which leads to less downtime and higher system reliability. Finally, the amount of data that can be gathered from the system is huge and gives unlimited possibilities to improve everyday operations.

Comprehensive electrification for linear and rotary motions
Energy-efficient and oil-free Motiomax products enable comprehensive electrification solutions for linear and rotary motions. The products are always optimized for customer applications including electromechanical cylinders, hub motors for mobile machines, industrial gear motors and required automation.
“Thanks to high reliability and simple structure, the need for maintenance is low. Motiomax solutions are ideal, especially for demanding applications where energy efficiency, precise moves and high forces are required. Almost oil-free structure supports the usage in conditions requiring cleanliness” -explains Sarvijärvi.
"Motiomax by Norrhydro" design and production are optimized according to customers' requirements. Electromechanical cylinders together with high-quality (Motiomax) gearboxes and heavy load ball screws enable reliable operation and long service life for demanding applications. The electric hub motor can easily replace hydraulic ones thanks to its identical mounting dimensions. The electromechanical solutions can be used both in mobile machinery as well as industrial applications, such as mobile machinery, various process industry and marine applications.
